An important role in the development of a dog is played by genetics, which, unfortunately, cannot be changed.

However, physical activity and proper nutrition have a positive effect on the health of the animal.

In this article, we will tell you what foods are best to give your puppy, how to diversify his diet, and what you need to know about nutrition in order to keep your pet healthy.

How often to feed a puppy

The frequency of meals depends on the age of the dog. Small puppies up to 10 months old need to be fed 5-6 times a day, an adult - 2 times a day.

If for some reason the animal was not fed, it is not recommended to increase the volume of the next portion.

To check whether the puppy is full or not, watch if he licks the bowl. If so, add some more food next time.

A dog is considered moderately well-fed if its ribs do not stick out. To avoid obesity, the animal should not overeat.

How much to feed

To determine the serving size, carefully read the manufacturer's recommendations on the package.

On the label in grams indicate how much the puppy should eat per day, depending on weight and age. Divide the daily allowance by the number of meals.

Do not measure by eye. Use a kitchen scale or measuring cup.

Determining the amount of homemade food is more difficult.

The serving size depends on the calorie content of the food, the living conditions and the physical activity of the animal.

Dogs that live on the street need to be given more food than those in the apartment.
