If you're a keen gardener, or just love nature and spend time outdoors, then you probably know a lot about lichen.

While it often appears in nature, it's not always great when it appears in your garden, because it can affect it quite a lot.

Here are a few reasons why you should get rid of it as fast as you can.

What is it?

Lichen is a type of organism that you might see in your garden. It often looks like green or grayish patches on rocks, trees, or the ground.

Lichen is made up of two things working together: a fungus and algae or bacteria.

Now, lichen isn't necessarily bad for your garden. In fact, some people like it because it can make your garden look more natural.

However, it might be a problem in some cases.

Competition for Space

Lichen can grow on the surfaces of plants and trees. When it covers leaves or branches, it might block sunlight and air, which can be bad for those plants.

They need light and air to grow properly.

Indicator of Poor Air Quality

In some cases, if there's a lot of lichen in your garden, it can be a sign of air pollution.

Lichen is sensitive to pollution, so its presence might indicate that the air isn't as clean as it should be.

Conclusion

So, lichen isn't necessarily bad, but if it starts covering your plants too much, it could affect their growth.

And if you see a lot of lichen, it might be a sign that you need to check the air quality in your area.
