When your children are small, lots of things in your house can be potentially dangerous to them.

Creating a safe interior environment for children is essential to protect them from potential hazards and accidents.

Here are some guidelines to help make your interior safe for children.

Childproofing

Install safety gates at the top and bottom of stairs to prevent falls.

Place safety covers on electrical outlets to prevent accidental electrocution.

Use cabinet locks and latches to keep hazardous items like cleaning products, sharp objects, and medicines out of reach.

Use door stoppers to prevent fingers from getting caught in doors.

Flooring

Choose flooring that is soft and forgiving, such as carpet or rubber mats, to cushion falls.

If you have hardwood or tile floors, use area rugs with non-slip backing to reduce slip and fall risks.

Furniture and Decor

Round the sharp edges of furniture or use edge guards to prevent injuries from bumps and falls.

Avoid placing heavy or breakable items within reach of children.

Use cordless window coverings to eliminate strangulation hazards.

Toys

Select age-appropriate toys that do not have small parts that could be choking hazards.

Regularly inspect toys for wear and tear, and discard damaged ones.

Store toys in designated bins or containers to keep the space organized and safe.

Electronics and Cables

Keep electronic devices and their cords out of reach or secure them with cord organizers to avoid entanglement or tripping hazards.

Window Safety

Install window guards or safety netting on windows, particularly on upper floors, to prevent falls.

Ensure that windows cannot be opened wide enough for a child to crawl through.
