A good coat requires regular cleaning to stay beautiful and comfortable, so lots of people prefer to use professional cleaning services.

Meanwhile, you can clean your coats at home as well - you just need to know how to do it effectively and safely.

Here's how you can make your coat clean again without damaging the fabric.

Check the Label

Look for the care label inside your coat. It provides important information about the fabric and specific care instructions.

Follow these instructions whenever possible.

Spot Clean Stains

For small stains or spills, mix a solution of mild detergent or liquid soap with water.

Dab the stained area with a clean cloth or sponge soaked in the soapy solution. Avoid scrubbing, as it can damage the fabric or spread the stain.

Rinse the area with clean water and blot it with a dry cloth.

Machine Washing

If the care label permits machine washing, use a front-loading washing machine with a gentle or delicate cycle.

Use cold water to help preserve the color and fabric.

Close zippers, fasten buttons, and turn the coat inside out to protect the outer surface.

Use a mild detergent designed for delicate fabrics.

Hand Washing

If your coat isn't machine washable, fill a clean basin or bathtub with cold water.

Add a small amount of mild detergent and stir to create a soapy solution.

Submerge the coat and gently agitate it in the water. Pay special attention to stained or soiled areas.

Drying

Hang your coat on a well-padded hanger to maintain its shape. Avoid wire hangers, as they can cause shoulder bumps.

Lay the coat flat on a clean, dry surface to retain its shape, especially for heavier coats.

Brush It

After your coat is dry, use a soft-bristle brush to gently brush the fabric. This restores its fluffiness, removes lint, and helps maintain its appearance.
