If you have a domestic cat, then you might think that it doesn't need socialization - unline dogs, cats aren't seen as social animals.

Meanwhile, they actually need some sort of socialization to learn some basic cat skills and be more confident around other animals and people.

Here are a few things you should know about cat's socialization.

People

Socializing kittens with people means they should have positive experiences with humans.

Handling, gentle petting, and playtime with different individuals, including children, can make them more comfortable around people.

Cats that are well-socialized are less likely to be afraid, anxious, or aggressive when interacting with humans.

Other Animals

Cats that are introduced to other animals, like dogs or other cats, during their early development are more likely to get along with them.

Positive interactions with different types of animals can help prevent fear or aggression towards them in the future.

Environments

Socialization should also involve exposing kittens to various environments and situations.

This can include car rides, trips to the veterinarian, and different rooms in your home.

It helps them become less anxious and more adaptable in new settings.

Sounds and Sights

Kittens should be familiarized with different sounds, such as the vacuum cleaner, doorbells, and everyday household noises.

This reduces their likelihood of being frightened by unexpected sounds in the future.
