We all know that some food can cause lots of damage to our health, but what about food that can protect you?

A team of specialists have collected lots of previous studies to create a list of six foods that every adult should eat to stay healthy.

Let's find out more about it and why it's so important.

More about the study

A study led by researchers from McMaster University and Hamilton Health Sciences found that not eating enough of six key foods together increases the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in adults.

These foods include fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, fish, and whole-fat dairy products, all essential for reducing CVD risk.

The study also showed that a healthy diet can take various forms, including moderate amounts of whole grains or unprocessed meats.

In contrast to previous research, which often focused on diets combining unhealthy processed foods with healthy ones in Western countries, this global study concentrated on naturally healthy foods.

It's about protective foods

In contrast to previous diet scores that mixed unhealthy processed foods with nutritious ones, this research distinctively concentrated on beneficial foods.

The study advised a daily consumption of two to three portions of fruits and vegetables, one serving of nuts, and two servings of dairy.

Additionally, it suggested having three to four weekly servings of legumes and two to three weekly servings of fish.

For potential alternatives, the study proposed incorporating one daily portion of whole grains and one daily serving of unprocessed red meat or poultry.
