You have probably seen or heard this name of the dish more than once. In the article we will tell you what it is and what is special about it.

Poke history

So, in Hawaii, the most famous dish of these islands appeared - poke (from the literal translation - “cut into cubes”). Traditional poke, a dish similar to raw fish salad, is diced tuna marinated in soy sauce with onions, sesame seeds, wasabi, hot peppers and - often - nuts.

The word “poke” comes from Hawaii and refers to foods cut into pieces. Poke as a dish also originated in Hawaii: Japanese settlers adapted traditional cuisine to local food opportunities.

It seems that this is why some people jokingly call the dish “sushi on a plate”.

What is poke and how is it eaten

Poke (emphasis on the first syllable) is a designer dish that must be served in a deep plate / bowl. Mandatory ingredients are cereals (any, but rice / quinoa is most often used), sauce and fish / seafood. The rest of the ingredients can be added to your taste.
