A recent study suggests that adhering to Buddhism's five precepts may protect against depressive symptoms, particularly for individuals with high neuroticism and stress. 

The five precepts advocate avoiding harmful actions such as killing, stealing, and engaging in sexual misconduct.

Prior research indicates that following these ethical guidelines can enhance overall well-being. Nahathai Wongpakaran and her team from Chiang Mai University conducted a survey involving 645 adults in Thailand. 

The results showed that strong adherence to the five precepts mitigated the impact of perceived stress on depression. 

However, more research is needed to confirm these findings for a broader population.
