Animals spend a lot of time in the walls of the house and are often interested in plants. In such a situation, both plants and animals are harmed, since flowers can be toxic.
Put the plant out of reach of the pet
Keeping track of animals is not always possible. Therefore, take care in advance that neither the flower nor the pet is harmed.
Place the plant pot where the pet can’t reach it.
For example: in a separate room, on a high shelf.
If you leave the animal alone at home, also remove the plants.
Provide your pet with toys
Sometimes an animal is interested in a plant out of boredom.
Make sure, that your pet has interesting activities and toys.
Get interactive games with treats inside. Cats will be interested in scratching posts and mazes. For dogs, toys that you need to chase are suitable.
If the pet gets enough attention, walks, and games with the owner, the chance of interest in plants is minimal.
Spray the plant with lemon juice
Citrus is safe for pets, but cats and dogs don't like the smell of lemon.
Another way is to place orange or lemon peels on the soil in a pot.
The citrus smell will scare away not only pets, but also plant pests.
Reward your pet for obedience
If your pet is interested in plants at home, try positive behavioral reinforcement.
When the cat or dog is away from the plant pot, give the animal a treat.
Thus, the pet will remember that it receives a treat only away from the plant.
Also, remember to keep toxic plants and flowers away from animals.
