Dogs may benefit from having harder beds for several reasons, depending on their individual needs and preferences.

While some dogs may find softer beds comfortable, others might prefer and benefit from harder surfaces.

Here are some reasons why dogs may need harder beds.

Joint Support

Older dogs or dogs with joint issues, such as arthritis or hip dysplasia, often require more support for their joints.

A firmer bed can offer better orthopedic support, reducing pressure on their joints and promoting better rest.

Preventing Pressure Sores

Large and heavy dogs are more prone to developing pressure sores when lying on soft, plush beds.

A harder surface can distribute their weight more evenly, reducing the risk of pressure sores.

Cooling Effect

Dogs with thick coats or those living in warm climates might find firmer beds more comfortable, as they allow for better air circulation and cooling.

Soft beds can trap heat, making them uncomfortable for some dogs.

Chewing Habits

Some dogs have a tendency to chew on their beds.

Harder beds, made from durable materials, can withstand the chewing behavior and last longer.

Stability and Safety

Nervous or anxious dogs might prefer the stability and security provided by a firm, non-squishy bed.

Soft beds may feel unstable to them, causing anxiety.
