Why cat has bald spots on his head: Vets explain

Some cats are just naturally prone to alopecia, just like humans - that's why they have bolding spots near their ears.

At the same time, sometimes bald spots can be a sign to visit a vet as soon as possible.

Here are some reasons of these bald spots.

Over-grooming

Cats are known for their grooming behavior, and excessive grooming can lead to bald spots. Cats may excessively lick or chew on certain areas, including their heads, due to stress, anxiety, or skin irritation. 

Allergies

Cats can develop allergies to certain substances, including environmental allergens, food ingredients, or even grooming products. Allergic reactions can cause itching, skin irritation, and hair loss. 

Ringworm

Ringworm is a fungal infection that can affect cats and cause circular areas of hair loss, including on the head. The bald spots may be accompanied by redness, scaly skin, and itching. 

Parasites

External parasites like fleas or mites can irritate a cat's skin, leading to scratching, biting, and hair loss. Bald spots may appear on the head and other areas where the parasites are concentrated. 

Dermatitis or Skin Infections

Cats can develop dermatitis or bacterial/fungal skin infections, which can lead to hair loss. These conditions can be caused by factors such as allergies, injuries, or underlying health issues.
