The natural distribution environment is the north of the island of Iceland, the Japanese island of Hokkaido. In these places, the water temperature is low, the currents in the reservoirs are slow, so the cladophora grows slowly - 5 mm per year.
In nature, Cladophora globular algae is found at the bottom of lakes, where it is dark enough that it does not need intense lighting to live in an aquarium. It is better to choose the darkest places.
The algae is unpretentious in terms of water parameters, slightly hard, alkaline water is desirable.
For the comfortable existence of cladophora, first of all, it is necessary that the water temperature does not exceed 20-22 ° C, which corresponds to natural reservoirs.
In very warm water, the colony loses its shape and quickly breaks apart. Therefore, the ideal choice would be growing in cold water aquariums.
In heat, rapid growth begins, and the plant quickly loses its aesthetic appearance and falls apart into fragments.
Globular cladophora in aquariums reproduces vegetatively. In warm water, the colony can break up into pieces, which must be transferred to a separate container with a temperature of up to 20 ° C and moderate illumination.
Under such conditions, after 1-1.5 years, the formation of new spherical colonies is possible.
