The growing season of vegetable fennel lasts 90-100 days. It can be grown by direct sowing of seeds in the ground or through seedlings.

What to do with fennel seeds

Fennel is widely used as a spice in many Oriental and Mediterranean dishes.

Seeds are added to salads, sauces, and seafood dishes.

Fennel goes especially well with salmon, perch, sardines, and meat (pork and lamb).

How to grow

Fennel seeds are planted in prepared soil to a depth of about 2 cm.

The first shoots appear on the 7-10th day, after which they need to be thinned out, leaving a distance of 20 cm between individual sprouts.

To protect the plant from possible frosts, it is worth making a film cover.

After thinning, the fennel is hilled.

How to grow fennel on a windowsill

To grow fennel, you need to take PH neutral soil and pour it into peat pots, throw two or three seeds into each, sprinkle 2 centimeters of soil and, placing in a dark place, wait two to three weeks until they sprout.

How does fennel overwinter

In the southern regions, fennel overwinters, forming seeds in the second year.

In the northern regions they winter only with good shelter.

To obtain an early harvest and seeds in an annual crop, the seedling method is used.

The seedlings are ready for planting in open ground a month after germination.
