Barberry is a shrub plant. Barberry berries have a strongly pronounced sour taste and are used to make compotes, liqueurs, syrups, jams, marshmallows, sweets and jellies.
It needs a lot of sun and a complete absence of drafts. In the shade, the bright colors of its foliage will fade, and the plant itself will begin to hurt. Soils are very important for barberry.
They should be light, well permeable, fertile and have a neutral or slightly alkaline reaction.
Immediately after planting, before rooting and the beginning of growth, the plants are provided with standard regular watering. Watering for this shrub is carried out carefully, at the root, trying not to soak the foliage, not with cold water.
Since the barberry is sensitive to waterlogging, watering should be moderate and only during the dry period. For better soil moisture retention, loosening and mulching are carried out several times.
For the full development of the shrub, it is enough to feed with nitrogen fertilizers once every 3 to 4 years, and with complex mineral fertilizers once a year or two years.
