Growing tomatoes: why do flowers fall off

Sometimes tomato flowers may fall off for various reasons.

Why Do Tomato Flowers Fall Off

Tomato flowers can drop for several reasons, primarily due to unsuitable air temperatures.

Both extreme heat and cold can disrupt the flowering process.

When temperatures soar above 35°C, the pollen becomes sterile, causing the flowers to dry up and fall off.

Another issue to watch out for is excessive nitrogen, which can also lead to flower drop.

Additionally, improper watering, lack of sunlight, or poor pollination can cause tomatoes to lose their flowers.

What to Do If Tomato Flowers Fall Off

To prevent flower drop, ensure regular ventilation and mulching to protect the soil from evaporation.

Water the plants as needed, but avoid watering in the evening or at night.

It's important to note that flowers tend to dry up and fall off more frequently in greenhouses than in open ground.

Therefore, establishing good air circulation in the greenhouse is crucial.
