Tamarillo is an evergreen fruit plant of the nightshade family, its other name is tomato tree. The life of tamarillo is about fifteen years, it begins to bear fruit a year after planting.
A tomato tree in nature reaches two to three meters in height and can live up to 15 years. Fruiting begins from the second year of life. The leaves are quite large, oval in shape, slightly pubescent.
Tamarillos grow best in a sunny, sheltered location (the more sun the better) with some wind and frost protection.
Cultivation of a tomato tree occurs, as a rule, in a greenhouse, but it can also be in open ground. Seedlings need to be taken care of in February. Seeds of a tomato tree are placed in the soil and covered with a film. By the time of landing on the garden, which is produced at the end of May, June, the seedling should reach a height of about a meter.
Tamarillo is considered absolutely not picky plant and is ready to grow on any soil. Among many gardeners, there is an opinion that standard soil from the garden is suitable, someone uses a store-bought substrate.
You need to water often, but little by little, because drying out and excess moisture harm the plant. Tamarillo loves the sun very much, but not its rays, which, if hit directly, can become dangerous for the foliage and the plant itself.
