Housekeeping tips: When your bathroom seal becomes yellow

In your bathroom, you probably have a few places sealed with a special resin-like material to avoid leaks.

These seals can be quite lasting, but they can also become yellowish over time, making your bathroom look dirty.

Here are some tips on how to make them transparent again.

Clean with Baking Soda and Vinegar

Make a paste using baking soda and water, apply it to the yellowed seal, and scrub gently. 

Rinse and wipe dry. You can also use a mixture of vinegar and water for cleaning.

Use a Mold and Mildew Cleaner

Purchase a bathroom cleaner specifically designed for mold and mildew. 

Follow the instructions on the product to clean the yellowed seal.

Apply Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide can be effective against stains. 

Dampen a cloth or cotton ball with hydrogen peroxide and apply it to the yellowed seal. 

Let it sit for a while, then scrub and rinse.

Try Lemon Juice

Lemon juice has natural bleaching properties. 

Apply fresh lemon juice to the yellowed seal, let it sit in the sunlight if possible, and then scrub and rinse.

Use a Magic Eraser

Magic Erasers or melamine foam sponges can work well on stains. 

Dampen the sponge and gently rub it on the yellowed seal.

Apply Bleach (if suitable for the surface)

For some bathroom surfaces, diluted bleach can be effective. 

Ensure it won't damage your surface, wear protective gear, and follow safety guidelines.

Prevent Moisture Buildup

Yellowing can occur due to moisture. 

Ensure good ventilation in your bathroom by using exhaust fans or leaving windows open. 

This helps prevent mold and mildew.

Consider Replacing the Seal

If the yellowing persists and cleaning doesn't work, you may need to replace the seal. 

Consult with a professional or follow the manufacturer's guidelines for replacement.

Use Mold-Resistant Sealant

When replacing or installing new seals, consider using mold-resistant sealant. 

This can help prevent yellowing and mold growth in the future.
