How often you should replace cat litter: It depends on its type

If you have a cat, then you know how many types of cat litter are available now.

While it's easy to replace some of them partially, others are meant to be replaced completely when needed.

But how to understand that the time has come?

Scooping and cleaning

Scoop the litter box at least once a day to remove solid waste and clumps. 

This helps maintain a clean and odor-free environment for your cat. 

Frequency of litter replacement

The frequency of completely replacing the litter in the box depends on the type of litter you use. 

Some clumping litters are designed to last longer because they form tight clumps that can be easily scooped. 

Non-clumping litters may require more frequent replacement, typically every one to two weeks.

Odor control

If you notice that the litter box is retaining odor even after scooping, or if your cat is avoiding using the litter box, it may be time for a complete litter replacement. 

Multiple cats

If you have multiple cats sharing a litter box, it is generally recommended to increase the frequency of scooping and consider more frequent litter replacement to accommodate the increased usage.

Regular cleaning

In addition to daily scooping, it is beneficial to thoroughly clean the litter box periodically. 

This involves emptying the box, washing it with mild soap and water, and allowing it to dry before refilling it with fresh litter.
