You don't always need lots of fresh herbs in your refrigerator, and sometimes you need them, but don't have them.

Fortunately, you can just freeze some and use them for cooking when needed!

Here are some tips on how to do that right.

Clean and Dry

Gently wash the herbs under cool running water to remove any dirt or debris.

Ensure the herbs are completely dry before proceeding, as any excess moisture can lead to freezer burn or deterioration.

Whole Leaves

For herbs like basil, mint, or sage, you can freeze the whole leaves.

Place them in a single layer on a baking paper or a plate lined with some parchment paper, and put it in the freezer and leave it there until the plants are firm.

Chopped or Minced

Finely chop the herbs using a nice and sharp knife or process them with a blender.

Spread the bits of herbs evenly in ice cube or chocolate trays or small portions in plastic containers.

Freezing and Storage

Once the herbs are completely frozen, transfer them to airtight plastic containers, resealable bags, or freezer-safe jars.

Remove as much air as possible from the containers to minimize freezer burn.

Usage

When you want to cook and add some herbs, you can easily remove the required amount from the freezer and thaw them.

You can add them directly to cooked pasta, soups, stews, or sauces.
