The article will focus on high sensitivity - a feature of the psyche and perception, which is characterized by susceptibility to external and internal stimuli: for example, bright lights, noise, strong odors, crowds, the emotions of others and one's own feelings.
Although the term appears frequently in pop culture, there are some studies that document high sensitivities among the neurodivergent population.
A highly sensitive person (HSP) is a person who has an increased sensitivity of the central nervous system to physical, emotional, or social stimuli. For example, such people react sharply to pain and violent films. Bright lights, strong smells and life changes make them uncomfortable.
The reason is in the peculiarities of the nervous system, due to which highly sensitive people (HSPs) perceive life and everything that happens to them with a keen sense of urgency. This means that stimuli that are harmless to others can cause almost physical pain, and the slightest changes cause anxiety.
These people have developed intuition. First, they think through all the possible scenarios in detail - and only then make a decision and begin to act. At the same time, they are afraid of making a mistake, so they often also experience anxiety.
