Not only big pets are high-maintenance - small pets also require lots of time and efforts from their owners.

Some pets may be small but require a significant amount of care and attention, making them high-maintenance.

Here are a few examples of small, high-maintenance pets.

Exotic Birds

Some small exotic bird species, such as parrots or conures, can be high-maintenance due to their intelligence and social needs.

They require mental stimulation, social interaction, and a varied diet to stay healthy and happy.

Hedgehogs

Hedgehogs are adorable small pets, but they have unique dietary requirements and need a specialized environment.

They are nocturnal animals and require regular cleaning of their living space.

Sugar Gliders

Sugar gliders are small marsupials that require a lot of social interaction and mental stimulation.

They are highly active and need plenty of space for exercise and play.

Miniature Pigs

Miniature pigs might be small when they're young, but they can grow much larger than expected and need a lot of space and socialization.

They also require a balanced diet and proper veterinary care.

Reptiles

Certain small reptiles, like chameleons or some species of geckos, can be high-maintenance due to their specific temperature and humidity requirements, as well as their diet and habitat needs.

Ferrets

Ferrets are small and playful, but they are also energetic and curious animals that need plenty of mental and physical stimulation.

They require regular grooming and a safe, enriched environment.

Small Rodents

Some small rodents, like guinea pigs or degus, have specific dietary needs and require regular cage cleaning and enrichment to stay healthy and happy.
