Quince is the only fruit that has a specific and very tart taste when raw. The fruit is usually fried or baked. In the article we will tell you how to grow quince in your garden.
Place
It loves light and moisture very much, but at the same time it tolerates drought and floods very well. The roots of the plant in the ground lie shallow, quince takes root well on soils with shallow groundwater.
Quince should be planted on a flat area or on gentle slopes. The best place would be the southern and open part of the summer cottage.
The soil
Quince grows well in nutritious loamy soils. On sandy soils, when planting, it is recommended to add black soil or loam to the planting pit. Too heavy soils are also recommended to be slightly diluted with sand. Planting hole for quince should be large.
Watering
Watering: regular, 4-5 waterings per season. Young seedlings require frequent watering. The first watering of a fruiting quince is before flowering, the second - during flowering, the third - after the extra ovaries fall off, the fourth - during the growth of shoots, the fifth - during the growth of fruits.
Fertilizer
After planting, top dressing will be needed only a year later: in the spring, compost, potash fertilizer and superphosphate are added to the near-stem circle. In summer, quince is fertilized with ammonium nitrate or mullein.
