Rodents are dangerous for the garden and vegetable garden because they spoil plants and crops. In the article we will give several examples of effective control of squirrels and chipmunks.
Think about why rodents harm the garden
Squirrels feed on nuts, leaves, berries, seeds, and root vegetables.
As a rule, they have enough food in the garden and they do not cause damage to the crop.
Rodents can dig up beds to make caches of food.
Use Cayenne Pepper or Other Repellent
You can buy ground cayenne pepper at almost any grocery store.
Sprinkle pepper on the soil in flowerbeds and beds.
The repellent needs to be reapplied every time it rains or waters the garden. However, it is an effective way to protect crops and flowers.
You can also try chipmunk and squirrel repellents. As a rule, such products are safe for wild and domestic animals, gardens and humans.
Many repellents contain predator urine, which is feared by small animals like rodents.
Avoid attracting squirrels and chipmunks as much as possible
For example, don't leave bowls of pet food outside.
Remove fallen trees and piles of stones from the garden.
Plant plants whose smell rodents do not like: daffodils, tulips, marigolds.
In addition, to protect spring flowers from pests plant the bulbs at the correct depth:
- 6-8 inches for tulips and hyacinths;
- 3-4 for crocuses.
