Calatheas are very sensitive to frequent temperature changes (when opening doors and windows) and the flow of sunlight.

In this regard, it is better to place them away from bright windows, from constantly slamming doors and drafts from open windows.

What kind of pot is needed for calathea

The plant loves wide and not too high pots, since the root system of the calathea does not go deep into the soil, but grows superficially.

For each subsequent transplant, you need to select a container 3–4 cm wider than the previous one.

Temperature: normal for residential premises, but not lower than 16 ˚C.

Watering: abundant during the growing season, moderate in winter.

Air humidity: 90%: it is recommended to regularly spray the leaves with a fine spray or keep the calathea on a tray with damp pebbles.

Is it possible to spray calathea leaves

Calathea should be kept in high humidity - approximately 90%. This is not so easy to achieve at home.

Therefore, it is worth getting into the habit of regularly spraying the leaves with warm water from a spray bottle or wiping them with a wet cloth.

Calathea propagation by leaf

The least common and almost less reliable method is the method of propagating calathea by leaf.

In this case, one large healthy leaf is separated and planted in a special substrate.

The leaf is covered with glass on top until it takes root.
