For planting, choose a fertile, sunny area with an acidity of 6.0 to 7.2 pH. The soil should pass moisture and air well. If the soil is depleted, mineral and organic fertilizers can be applied during soil preparation and cultivation, except for manure.

Planting and caring for parsnips

Planting: sowing seeds in the ground - from mid to late April or before winter, at the end of October.

Sowing seeds for seedlings - in the middle or at the end of March, planting seedlings in the garden - in mid-May. Lighting: bright sunlight or partial shade.

How to plant parsnips in open ground

The method of sowing parsnips is an ordinary one-line, with a row spacing of 35-40 cm, or a two- and three-line belt.

The distance between the lines in the tape is 20-30 cm, and between the tapes - 50-60-70 cm, depending on the crop variety.

The depth of embedding parsnip seeds in the ground should not exceed 1-2 cm.

How fast parsnips grow

Parsnip seeds germinate very slowly - up to 20 days. Seedlings withstand frost. Only now it often happens that the first batch of parsnip seeds does not sprout at all.

Is it possible to transplant parsnips

First of all, it must be borne in mind that parsnips do not tolerate not only transplantation, but even minor damage to the root system.

And that is why experienced gardeners strongly recommend growing parsnip seedlings only in separate containers (plastic cassettes or small pots).
