Deep cleaning your yoga mat should be done at least once a year. The frequency of brushing depends on how often you use it.
How to clean a yoga mat
- Washing machine. Information on whether the rug is machine washable can be found on the label of the rug. If possible, choose gentle mode without bleach.
- Natural ingredients. Mix half a cup of vinegar, 2 tablespoons of baking soda, a few drops of tea tree oil with water in a spray bottle. Wipe solution on the mat with a microfiber cloth.
- Clothing sender. Steam does a good job of killing germs and contaminants. After steaming both sides, hang the mat to dry.
Not all yoga mats are suitable for steam cleaning, as they can deteriorate due to high temperatures.
To prevent heavy soiling, store your yoga mat properly. If the mat is damp after a workout, let it dry.
If you want to keep your mat clean at all times, wipe it down with a disinfectant after every session.
