Mushrooms are amazing for lots of nutritious dishes, and they can even replace meat in some vegetarian dishes.

You can grow delicious mushrooms in your garden to dry, marinade or just cook and eat them later.

Here are some tips how to grow and harvest mushrooms.

Prepare the Growing Bed

One common method is to create a mushroom bed using a mixture of organic materials like straw, wood chips, or sawdust. 

Some mushrooms may require pasteurization or sterilization of the substrate to eliminate competing organisms.

Inoculation

Spawn is a material containing mushroom mycelium, which is the fungal equivalent of plant seeds. 

You can purchase spawn from specialized suppliers or generate your own by allowing mycelium to colonize a sterilized substrate. 

Provide Optimal Growing Conditions

Mushrooms generally thrive in cool, shaded, and humid conditions. 

Place your mushroom bed in a suitable location in your garden, such as under a tree or in a shaded area. 

Maintain the proper moisture levels by watering the bed regularly, ensuring it remains consistently damp but not saturated. 

Protect the bed from extreme temperature fluctuations and direct sunlight, as this can inhibit mushroom growth.

Maintain Moisture and Ventilation

Mist the mushroom bed with water regularly to maintain moisture levels. 

Adequate ventilation is also crucial to prevent the growth of mold or fungi other than the desired mushroom species.
