Materials Needed
- Toothbrush
- Microfiber cloth
- Towel or dish towel
- Distilled white vinegar
- Baking soda (optional)
Self-Clean Function (If Available)
If your washing machine has a self-clean function, use it according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
This cycle will clean the inside of the machine and help prevent buildup.
Manual Cleaning (Three-Step Process)
If your machine doesn’t have a self-clean function, follow these steps:
- Step 1: Add Vinegar
Pour distilled white vinegar into the detergent dispenser.
Don’t worry about damaging your machine; vinegar won’t harm clothes.
- Step 2: Run a Hot Water Cycle
Start a regular wash cycle using hot water.
The vinegar-water combo will remove and prevent bacteria growth.
- Step 3: Deodorize and Prevent Mildew
Vinegar also acts as a deodorizer and cuts through mildew odors.
Wipe down the interior with a microfiber cloth or towel.
Optionally, sprinkle baking soda in the drum and run another hot water cycle.
