Children need a supportive, safe and trusting environment for their normal physical and mental development. In the article we will talk about one of the consequences of child abuse.

Research results

According to a recent study, people who were emotionally or otherwise abused as children are more susceptible to alexithymia as adults.

Alexithymia is a condition where a person has difficulty identifying and describing their emotions. This is not a psychosomatic disorder, but a personality trait that can change.

The results of the study showed that child abuse can have long-term consequences that will affect the characteristics of a person in adulthood.

Alextimia in this case can serve as a protective mechanism of the psyche in response to severe trauma or prolonged stress.
