Hypervigilance can be a symptom of psychological conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety.
What is hypervigilance
Hypervigilance is manifested by a sense of threat in safe situations, places with people.
Even familiar environments and people can be a problem, as hypervigilance can make people keenly appreciate details that were previously overlooked—body language, a person's voice and tone, their mood, facial expressions.
How to treat post-traumatic stress
If a patient has been diagnosed with severe PTSD, desensitization is prescribed.
Among the medicines, antidepressants, anabolics, tranquilizers can be prescribed. If necessary, a complex treatment method can be selected by a specialist.
Hypervigilance can be characterized by four general features:
- Threat reassessment. Overly vigilant people will look for threats that are either unlikely or exaggerated.
- Obsessive avoidance of perceived threats.
- Increased fear reflex.
- Physiological symptoms caused by adrenaline.
