There are lots of stereotypes around different dog breeds, including the correlation between their size and intelligence.

Though it doesn't even sound right, lots of people still believe that huge (or small) dogs are always smarter than other breeds.

Let's find out more about it.

Size doesn't really matter

The intelligence of dogs is not solely determined by their size.

Factors such as genetics, training, and individual temperament play a role in a dog's intelligence, regardless of its size.

Intelligence can be different

Different dog breeds have been selectively bred for various purposes, such as herding, hunting, or companionship.

These purposes have influenced the development of specific traits, including intelligence, in different breeds.

For example, certain small breeds like the Border Terrier or Papillon are known for their intelligence and trainability, while larger breeds like the German Shepherd or Golden Retriever are often considered highly intelligent working dogs.

It's hard to measure

Some dogs may excel in specific types of intelligence, such as problem-solving, obedience, or social intelligence, while others may excel in different areas.

For example, small dogs may be more agile and quick to learn certain tricks or tasks, while larger dogs may be better suited for activities that require strength or endurance.

Temperament, energy level, and compatibility with your lifestyle are equally important factors to ensure a successful match between you and your canine companion.
