Protecting your garden from wildlife: Effective measures

Wild animals can damage your garden, and they can also be just unsafe to be around.

If you find that wild animals are causing damage or disturbances in your garden, there are several strategies you can employ to protect your plants and maintain a harmonious coexistence. 

Here are some effective measures:

Fencing

Install a sturdy fence around your garden to create a physical barrier. 

Choose a fence type that is appropriate for the specific animals you want to deter. 

For smaller animals, like rabbits, a low wire or mesh fence may suffice, while taller fences may be necessary to deter deer or larger mammals.

Netting and Mesh

Cover vulnerable plants with netting or mesh to prevent animals from accessing them. 

This can be particularly useful for safeguarding fruit trees, berry bushes, or vegetable patches. 

Ensure the netting is securely fastened to prevent animals from getting entangled.

Repellents

Utilize natural or commercial repellents to discourage wildlife from entering your garden. 

These can include scent-based repellents, predator urine, or deterrent sprays specifically designed for the target animals. 

Follow the instructions carefully and reapply as necessary.

Scare Tactics

Implement scare tactics to startle and deter animals. 

This can include visual deterrents like scarecrows, shiny reflective objects, or motion-activated devices that emit lights or sounds. 

The goal is to create an environment that animals perceive as unsafe or unwelcome.
