Getting rid of plaster stains: Housekeeping tips

Remodeling can be hard - it takes lots of time, money, and efforts, and it can also produce lots of dirt and mess.

Cleaning your house after remodeling is one of the most unpleasant things about remodeling, especially when you have to clean plaster stains.

Here are a few tips that can make it easier for you.

Quick Cleanup

Try to wipe off wet plaster right away with a damp sponge or cloth. The sooner you deal with it, the easier it is to clean.

Scrape Off Dried Plaster

If the plaster has dried, gently scrape it off using a plastic scraper or the edge of a credit card. Be careful not to scratch the surface.

Vinegar Solution

Mix water and vinegar (about one part vinegar to ten parts water) and use a sponge to dab at the plaster stain. Vinegar can help dissolve the plaster.

Soap and Water

For water-based plaster, mix a bit of mild dish soap with water. Dab the stain with a sponge or cloth soaked in this soapy solution.

Razor Blade (for hard surfaces)

If the stain is on a hard, non-porous surface like glass or tile, you can carefully use a razor blade at a slight angle to scrape off dried plaster. 

Be gentle to avoid scratches.

Commercial Cleaners (Check Compatibility)

There are commercial cleaners designed for removing dried plaster. 

Make sure they are suitable for the surface you're cleaning, and follow the instructions carefully.

Test in a Small Area

Before using any cleaning solution, test it in a small, inconspicuous area to make sure it won't damage or discolor the surface.

Prevention for Future Projects

Consider using drop cloths or protective coverings during future remodeling projects to minimize the chances of plaster stains.
