Bigger families often use bigger trash bins – simply because it takes way less time to make them full.

Meanwhile, using bigger trash bins doesn't mean that you can take them away less often, because dirt can bring lots of unpleasant odors.

Here are a few tips on how often you should take the trash away.

Check the Trash Bin

Keep an eye on your trash bin and see how quickly it fills up.

This will give you an idea of how often you need to take it out.

Daily or Every Other Day

For most households, it's best to empty the trash bin everyday or every other day.

This helps to prevent the buildup of odor-causing bacteria and keeps the smell under control.

Consider the Contents

If you have items in the trash that are likely to produce strong odors, such as food waste or spoiled items, it's even more important to empty the bin frequently.

These items can quickly make the smell worse if left for too long.

Hot Weather or Humidity

In hot weather or humid climates, the trash can start to smell faster. In such conditions, it's advisable to take the trash out more frequently to avoid unpleasant odors.

Securely Bag the Trash

When disposing of trash, make sure to securely bag it to prevent leaks or spills.

This will help contain any potential odor and make it easier to handle.

Clean the Trash Bin

Regularly clean and disinfect your trash bin to eliminate any lingering smells.

Use a mild detergent or a mixture of water and vinegar to clean the bin thoroughly.

Make sure to rinse and dry it before placing a new trash bag inside.

Consider Outdoor Bins

If you have an outdoor trash bin, you may need to empty it less frequently, depending on its size and how many people use it.

However, it's still important to check and empty it regularly to prevent odor buildup.
