Pickles, like any other product, can go bad. In the article we will talk about proper storage, and how to understand if it has deteriorated.

Why pickles spoil

These are poorly washed cans; improper sterilization of cans; poorly "rolled" covers; cracks and chips on the neck of cans; use of iodized salt. In addition, the brine may become cloudy due to the fact that cucumbers of lettuce varieties got into preservation or due to improper storage conditions.

How to understand if pickles have gone bad

Pickled cucumbers should not have turbidity of the brine, but for salted cucumbers, on the contrary, a whitish precipitate is the norm. Look at the lid from the inside. If there are signs of corrosion - this is very dangerous, it is better to throw away the jar. Some people think that this is not scary, but metal salts, when oxidized, become quite toxic.

Storage rules

After opening the jar, pickles are stored in the refrigerator for no more than 2 weeks. They are stored in brine, in which cucumbers were pickled. The liquid should completely cover the vegetables. If pickles have become soft and no longer crunchy, it is better to throw them away, even if the taste has not changed.
