While most birds are harmless and play a vital role in the ecosystem, some species can pose a danger to people under specific circumstances.

When angry or terrified, some birds can actually do lots of harm to people.

Here are a few examples of birds that can be potentially dangerous.

Birds of Prey

Raptors, such as eagles, hawks, and owls, have powerful talons and beaks designed for hunting and capturing prey.

While they typically avoid humans, they may become aggressive if they feel threatened or cornered.

In rare cases, larger raptors might cause harm to small pets or livestock.

Magpies and Crows

Some species of magpies and crows can be territorial during their nesting season and may become aggressive towards humans if they perceive them as threats to their nests or offspring.

They might swoop and peck in defense.

Geese and Swans

These waterfowl can become aggressive, especially during their nesting season, when they are protecting their eggs or young.

They may hiss, flap their wings, or bite if they feel their territory is being invaded.

Cassowaries

Found in parts of Australia and Papua New Guinea, cassowaries are large flightless birds known for their powerful legs and sharp claws.

They are considered one of the most dangerous birds due to their aggressive behavior if they feel threatened.

European Starlings

Although small, European starlings are invasive birds known for their large flocks and destructive feeding habits.

They can cause damage to crops, gardens, and property.
