There are some changes in the visual system that are simply impossible to miss.
How to tell if your dog is losing his sight
As dog owners age, they often notice clouding of the eyes, hemorrhages, redness of the eyeball, and excessive lacrimation.
Due to vision pathologies, the dog often cannot look at the light; the animal keeps its eyelids closed.
These are important symptoms of vision loss or eye disease in dogs.
You should take your dog to the vet for an eye exam if your pet:
- bumps into walls and objects in the house and on the street;
- behaves unsteadily when moving;
- cannot find the ball you threw;
- refuses food and water;
- sleeps more and more often than usual.
How to test your dog's eyesight at home
To test your dog's vision, create an obstacle course and call your pet to you.
If the animal jumped over and went around everything you built, this means its vision is in perfect order.
If the dog encounters any of the obstacles, then this is a reason to consult a doctor for a vision test.
