Their eyes are divided into three parts, each with a different function, allowing them to see a wide range of visual information and perceive polarized light.

Powerful Strikes

Mantis shrimp are renowned for their lightning-fast and incredibly powerful strikes. 

They have specialized appendages called raptorial claws that can strike with immense speed and force, capable of breaking shells and even glass aquarium walls. 

These strikes are among the fastest movements in the animal kingdom.

Hunting Techniques

Mantis shrimp employ unique hunting techniques to capture prey. 

Depending on their species, they may either ambush their prey or engage in active hunting. 

Some species use their raptorial claws to spear or bludgeon their prey, while others have specialized claws that can slice and impale their targets.

Complex Behaviors

Mantis shrimp display intriguing behaviors, including elaborate courtship rituals and intricate social interactions. 

Some species engage in complex territorial behaviors and have intricate burrows they construct for shelter and protection.
