If you have lots of mirrors, then you need to maintain them clean at all costs.

Cleaning mirrors might seem straightforward, but there are common mistakes that people often make that can leave streaks, smudges, or damage the mirror's surface.

Here are some popular mirror cleaning mistakes to avoid.

Using Too Much Cleaner

Using excessive amounts of cleaning solution can lead to streaks and buildup.

A little goes a long way; spray a light mist of cleaner onto a cloth or the mirror's surface.

Using the Wrong Cleaner

Some household cleaners can be too harsh for mirrors and can damage the reflective coating or the frame.

Avoid using abrasive or ammonia-based cleaners.

Using Paper Towels or Newspaper

While paper towels and newspaper might seem like good choices, they can leave lint, fibers, and ink residue on the mirror, leading to streaks.

Not Dusting First

Dust and dirt on the mirror's surface can create smudges when you try to clean them.

Always start by gently dusting the mirror to remove loose particles.

Spraying Directly onto the Mirror

Spraying cleaner directly onto the mirror can lead to overspray, which can get behind the mirror and damage its backing.

Instead, spray onto a cloth.

Rubbing Too Hard

Scrubbing the mirror vigorously can damage the reflective coating and create scratches.

Not Rinsing or Wiping Off Cleaner

Letting the cleaning solution dry on the mirror can result in streaks.

Always wipe away the cleaner with a dry cloth after cleaning.

Wiping in Circles

Wiping the mirror in circular motions can actually create streaks that are more visible when light hits them.

Instead, use vertical or horizontal strokes.
