Most people have some citric acid at home in case they need to descale their kettle, but what if you don't have any?

Luckily, there are a few alternative methods of how you can make your kettle clean and nice again.

Here are a few tips on what you can do.

Fill the kettle

Fill the kettle with equal parts water and white vinegar.

Make sure the vinegar and water mixture is enough to cover the limescale buildup inside the kettle.

Let it soak

Leave the vinegar and water mixture in the kettle for about an hour. This allows the acid in the vinegar to dissolve the limescale.

Boil the mixture

After soaking, turn on the kettle and bring the vinegar and water mixture to a boil. Let it boil for a few minutes to further loosen the limescale.

Scrub the kettle

Once the mixture has boiled, unplug the kettle and let it cool down.

Then, use a non-abrasive brush or sponge to scrub the inside of the kettle, focusing on areas with limescale buildup.

Be gentle to avoid scratching the kettle's surface.

Rinse thoroughly

After scrubbing, pour out the vinegar and water mixture from the kettle.

Rinse the kettle thoroughly with clean water to remove any remaining vinegar residue.

Repeat if necessary

If there is still limescale present, you can repeat the process by filling the kettle with fresh vinegar and water mixture and letting it soak again.

However, make sure to rinse the kettle well after each descaling.
