While widely used, cleaning chemicals can actually be dangerous when misused.

If you don't protect your skin well, then you might get an unpleasant skin irritation.

Here are a few signs that you should be more careful with your cleaning chemicals.

Redness

If your skin becomes red after coming into contact with cleaning chemicals, it could be a sign of irritation.

The affected area may appear flushed or inflamed.

Itching

If you feel an intense urge to scratch the skin after using cleaning products, it could be a sign of irritation.

Itching can be bothersome and may cause discomfort.

Dryness

Cleaning chemicals can strip the natural oils from your skin, leading to dryness.

Your skin may feel tight, rough, or flaky. Dry skin can also make you more prone to other skin issues.

Burning or stinging sensation

Some cleaning chemicals can cause a burning or stinging sensation upon contact with the skin.

This can be quite uncomfortable and may indicate an adverse reaction.

Swelling

In some cases, exposure to cleaning chemicals can cause the skin to swell.

The affected area may appear puffy or larger than usual.

Rash or hives

Skin irritation from cleaning chemicals can manifest as a rash, which may appear as red, raised bumps or small blisters.

Hives, which are itchy, raised welts on the skin, can also occur.

Sensitivity to touch

Irritated skin may become more sensitive to touch.

Even gentle contact or slight pressure on the affected area can cause discomfort or pain.
