Bananas are a source of fiber; contain pectin - a substance that contributes to the normalization of cholesterol levels; have anticancer, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects.

What bananas can be fried

Plantains can be fried. Their appearance is different from their sweet counterparts: they are more angular, slightly thicker and longer. But the pulp of most varieties practically does not differ from an ordinary banana. Its color is mostly yellow, but may be reddish. By the color of the skin, you can tell what each plantain is best suited for.

Yellow bananas that already have a few black spots are suitable for pan-frying, deep-frying, baking, boiling, or chopping. Black bananas are very sweet. They can be used for desserts. For example, in Colombia, bananas are simply cut into slices, then they are pressed and lightly fried in a pan.

Can plantains be eaten raw

Green or yellow plantains are not edible when raw: even when the plantains are fully ripe, only a slight conversion of the starch contained in them into sugar occurs. In addition, their flesh is not particularly tasty when raw.
