Dogs aren't just carnivores – they are omnivores, and they actually need plant-based foods to stay healthy and active.

For example, dogs can and should eat vegetables, especially some kinds of them.

Here are a few examples of vegetables you should give to your dog from time to time.

Carrots

Carrots are a good option for dogs. They are crunchy and can be given as a healthy snack. You can even cook them a bit to make them softer.

Green beans

Green beans are another safe choice. They can be given to dogs as a low-calorie treat or added to their meals for some extra fiber.

Peas

Peas are safe for dogs and can be served either fresh or cooked. They provide vitamins and minerals and can be a tasty addition to their meals.

Sweet potatoes

Sweet potatoes are a nutritious vegetable that dogs can enjoy. You can cook them and offer them as a treat or mash them and mix them with their regular food.

Pumpkin

Plain pumpkin, either fresh or canned (without any added spices or sugars), can be beneficial for dogs.

It can help with digestion and is often recommended for dogs with upset stomachs.

Spinach

Spinach is safe for dogs in small amounts. It can be a source of vitamins and minerals.

However, it's important not to overfeed spinach as it contains a compound called oxalates that may be harmful in large quantities.

Broccoli

Broccoli can be given to dogs in moderation.

It's a good source of fiber and vitamins, but too much can cause digestive upset. It's best to offer small, cooked pieces.
