Most garden plants benefit from lots of sunlight – and in that case, more is always better.
If your garden isn't particularly sunny, then you still can find some sunny spots for particularly picky plants.
Here are a few tips on how to find the best spots.
Watch how the sun moves across your yard during the day.
The sunniest spots are where it shines the longest.
Areas without tall trees or buildings blocking the sun are usually sunnier.
Plants need direct sunlight, so open spaces are great.
Look for places where shadows from other things, like your house or trees, don't cover the ground for too long.
Less shadow means more sunlight.
Sunlight in the morning is usually milder and good for plants.
So, areas that get morning sun can be great for your garden.
In some places, south-facing spots get a lot of sunlight.
If you have a spot facing south, it might be a sunny one.
North-facing spots usually get less direct sunlight. If possible, avoid planting in these areas.
