Green tea is often seen as the healthiest thing you can drink after clean water, and it's true - but you still should drink it in moderation.

While it seems to be completely harmless, it actually contains a few things that can cause stomach aches and digestion issues.

Let's find out more about why you should sometimes replace your favorite green tea with water.

Risk of stomach ache

If your tummy is easily upset or you have digestive problems, drinking lots of green tea can make it worse.

It can be a bit harsh on your stomach.

A surprising dose of caffeine

Green tea has caffeine, like coffee.

So, if caffeine makes you feel jittery, anxious, or gives you trouble sleeping, you should limit how much green tea you have.

You might get not enough iron

Green tea can make it harder for your body to absorb iron from food.

So, if you have anemia or need lots of iron in your diet, it's better to drink green tea between meals, not with them.

Be careful if you're pregnant

Pregnant women should be careful with green tea.

Too much caffeine can be bad for the baby. It's best to check with a doctor about how much is safe to drink.

Some meds dislike green tea

If you're taking certain medications, green tea might interact with them in a way that's not good.

Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're unsure.

Kids shouldn't drink too much of it as well

Kids should have green tea in moderation, if at all, because their bodies might not handle caffeine as well as adults.

Remember, a cup or two of green tea a day is usually okay for most people and might even have health benefits. But if you have any concerns or fall into one of these categories, it's a good idea to talk to a healthcare professional for personalized advice.
