Rabies is still one of the most dangerous illnesses you can face.

If you don't know the symptoms, then you can miss an ill animal, and then it can be too late, because rabies is fatal.

Here are some of the most obvious signs.

Drastic Behavioral Changes

Look for unusual aggression or irritability.

Wild animals that are typically shy or nocturnal may become aggressive and approach humans or other animals without fear.

Foaming at the Mouth

The animal may have difficulty swallowing due to paralysis of the throat muscles.

Erratic Movements and Coordination Issues

Rabid animals may stumble, tremble, or have difficulty walking or standing. This symptom is sometimes referred to as "drunken behavior."

Changes in Vocalization

Animals infected with rabies may exhibit abnormal vocalizations.

They may make strange, harsh, or distorted sounds.

Increased Aggression or Excitability

Rabies can cause animals to display aggressive behavior that is unprovoked or out of proportion to the situation.

They may attack or bite objects, animals, or even humans.

Paralysis

As the disease progresses, paralysis can occur in the hind legs or other parts of the body.

Paralyzed animals may drag their limbs or have difficulty moving.

Disorientation and Lethargy

Rabid animals may appear disoriented, confused, or unusually lethargic.

They may have a lack of interest in their surroundings or show decreased responsiveness.
