Understanding that your rodent pet has teeth issues requires observation and attention to certain signs and behaviors.

Rodents, such as hamsters, guinea pigs, rats, and mice, have continuously growing teeth, and dental problems can arise if their teeth are not wearing down properly.

Here are some signs that may indicate your rodent pet is experiencing dental issues.

Decreased Appetite

A rodent with dental problems may eat less or have difficulty eating due to pain or discomfort while chewing.

Weight Loss

Dental issues can lead to reduced food intake, resulting in weight loss or a noticeable decrease in your pet's body weight.

Drooling or Excessive Salivation

If you notice excessive drooling or wetness around your pet's mouth, it could be a sign of dental pain.

Difficulty Chewing

Rodents with dental issues may struggle to chew their food, leading to a change in eating habits or avoiding certain foods altogether.

Loss of Teeth

In severe cases, you may notice that your pet has lost some of its teeth or that they appear broken or misshapen.

Excessive Dropping of Food

Rodents with dental issues may drop food more frequently while trying to eat, as they may struggle to hold it in their mouth properly.

Overgrown Teeth

In some cases, you may be able to see that your pet's teeth have become overgrown or misaligned.

However, this may require a veterinarian's examination, as their teeth are located at the back of their mouth.
