Actinidia does not make any special demands on soil fertility, but does not respond well to alkaline soils.

Slightly acidic and acidic soils are most optimal for the crop, although actinidia can fully develop and bear fruit on neutral soils.

When is the best time to plant actinidia

Based on climatic conditions, the planting process can be carried out both in early spring - in April, and in autumn.

Some varieties can be planted even at the beginning of summer - at the end of May and early June.

At the same time, experts note that it is optimal to plant actinidia in the fall, a couple of weeks before the first frost.

How to form actinidia correctly

In the first year after planting, the two strongest shoots are selected and spread along a trellis horizontally in opposite directions.

The remaining branches are removed.

The next year, young shoots are fixed vertically.

Then, every year, a couple of the strongest branches are left for fruiting, the rest are shortened.

Is it necessary to cover actinidia for the winter

Without shelter, the plant may not survive a harsh winter.

Actinidia is a perennial climbing plant whose homeland is considered to be Southeast Asia.

The vine is grown both for decorative purposes and to produce exotic fruits - “kiwi”.

What not to plant next to Actinidia

The close proximity of an apple tree is especially undesirable for actinidia.

If a young fruit tree is used as a support, it often dies, strangled by the vine.
