The taste of blackberry has a characteristic sourness and sometimes resembles the taste of blackcurrant. In the article we will talk about the features of cultivation and care.

Place

Be sure to take into account the weak frost resistance of the shrub, choosing a place where to plant it. It is most practical to place the blackberry in a sufficiently illuminated, maximally heated part of the site, which is protected from blowing by the cold wind (near the southern fence of the territory or on a south-facing slope).

Landing

Place the seedling in the hole and gradually cover with earth, carefully compacting each layer. Blackberry is a moisture-loving plant, so it is necessary to moisten the soil well during planting, but do not flood it. For one plant, when planting, you need to use up to 5 liters of water (depending on the current soil moisture).

The soil

Loamy, loose, fertilized soils (pH = 5.8-6.1) are suitable for blackberries.

If your site has alkaline soil, the acidity can be increased by adding sulfur, or ferrous sulfate. The latter will work faster.

Watering

During flowering and ripening of berries - moderate, but sufficient. The rest of the time - as needed: blackberries are drought-resistant.

There are no single recommendations in this case. You need to focus on climatic conditions, the frequency of precipitation, the age of the shrub. If the climate is hot and the summer is dry, blackberries should be watered at least once a week.

Pruning and top dressing

You need to trim the shrub in spring, summer and autumn. At the beginning of the growing season - nitrogen fertilizers, in the fall - chlorine-free potassium-phosphorus.
