Protecting your garden from ticks is important to ensure a safe and enjoyable outdoor space.

Ticks can transmit diseases, so taking preventive measures can help safeguard both you and your plants.

Here's how to protect your garden from ticks.

Create a Tick-Free Zone

Designate a tick-free zone around your garden by creating a barrier between wooded or grassy areas and your garden space.

This can be done by clearing tall grass, brush, and leaf litter.

Create a Dry Environment

Ticks thrive in humid conditions.

Ensure your garden has proper drainage to minimize moist and damp areas where ticks might reside.

Install Fencing

Use physical barriers like fencing to keep larger animals (such as deer) out of your garden.

Ticks often hitch a ride on these animals.

Remove Leaf Litter

Regularly clean up fallen leaves, grass clippings, and other organic debris that can provide hiding spots for ticks.

Prune Trees

Trim branches and foliage to increase sunlight and airflow, making the environment less suitable for ticks.

Use Tick-Repellent Plants

Some plants have natural tick-repellent properties, such as lavender, rosemary, and marigolds.

Plant these around your garden to deter ticks.

Pet Care

Regularly check and groom your pets for ticks, as they can carry ticks into your garden.

Use tick-preventive products recommended by your veterinarian.

Tick Tubes

Consider using tick tubes, which are filled with treated cotton that mice use for nesting.

Ticks that attach to mice are exposed to the treated cotton and killed.
